National Grid

Building a new employee training portal

National Grid's staff are spread across the United Kingdom with regular training required across the organisation, this training was not centralised, trackable or easily accessible.  With such a high importance for all the staff members to have the necessary training to ensure they are compliant and aware of company process, a solution was needed.

the client

National Grid are one of the world’s largest investor-owned utilities, focused on transmission activities in electricity and gas. Based across the UK and working in the public sector they own and operate the electricity transmission network in England and Wales alongside the operation but not ownership of Scottish networks. They own and operate the National Transmission System (NTS) in Great Britain.

the challenge

the challenge

We were asked to build National Grid's employee training portal. The main purpose of the system was to act like a Virtual Learning Environment for staff members at National Grid. This would allow a staff member to progress in certain areas by receiving coaching via this portal. This would also hold data on employees about what skill level they’re at.

National Grid needed a fresh new system to meet new requirements including automated progression for staff members, increased data and reports. They needed an up to date and easy to use, interface so coaches could communicate with employees and set up events.

Home Office

the solution

The key was to build National Grid a system which implements all the features they asked for - Notifications for employees, a coach area to improve skill levels and improved reporting so the staff can see their growth. A central hub to access video training, coaches to be able to set up training event invitations and a portal to set up online tests for employees.

National Grid now have a much more user friendly system that gives them more information on their employees skill level and allows their employees to see their own progression within the company.
